DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY
DAY 1 ARRIVE KANSAS CITY – TOUR BEGINS
Arrive in Kansas City and check into centrally located
Hotel Phillips, our home for two nights. Greet fellow
quilt-lovers and your Tour Manager at the evening
Welcome Meeting.
DAY 2 KANSAS CITY
After breakfast (included daily), embark on a
Kansas City Shop Hop visiting handpicked local
quilt and fabric shops that specialize in an eclectic
mix of contemporary & modern prints, At KC’s
City Market enjoy an independent lunch at one
of the casual global eateries or browse the indie
boutiques for local treasures. Tonight, explore the
Power & Light districts barbecue restaurants with
your evening at leisure. B

DAY 4 DES MOINES
Spend the whole day attending the American
Quilters Society QuiltWeek Des Moines show.
Admire exhibits of textile art showcasing quilts
from traditional to radically unconventional and
everything in-between. Polish your skills with a
pre-registered class or lecture, attend a pop-up
demonstration, test-drive a new longarm machine
or shop for fabrics, patterns, notions, kits and
needle-craft supplies in the vibrant merchant mall. B

DAY 3 KANSAS CITY – HAMILTON – DES MOINES
Depart for Hamilton, a quilter’s dream-town known
as the “Disneyland of Quilting” and home of The
Missouri Star Quilt Company. After a Meet &
Greet at the Main Shop and Visitor Center start
your pilgrimage at Batik Boutique, Kids & Baby
or 10 other themed quilters’ shops in the heart of
downtown. After admiring the larger-than-life quilt
murals, visit the Missouri Quilt Museum where
your included admission allows time to admire the
quilts of the current exhibition before exploring exhibits of antique sewing machines, vintage buttons,
antique toy sewing machines, thimbles, and other
sewing memorabilia. Later, depart for Des Moines
stopping at the Amish Country Store and Bakery,
filled with foods and crafts made by local Amish
families. After checking in to our downtown hotel,
relax and enjoy an evening at leisure. BD

DAY 6 OMAHA – LINCOLN
At the International Quilt Museum, we’ve
arranged a guided tour of the stunning museum,
exhibitions and galleries, and their acclaimed preservation laboratory. After browsing “must haves” in
their Museum Store, depart for the fun and utterly
friendly Cosmic Cow Quilt Shop. Boasting over
5,000 bolts of bright, bold, and fun quilting cottons,
they promise you’ll be over the moon with excitement. Tonight, share memories and swap addresses
with new friends at our Farewell Dinner. B D
Des Moines, Iowa
DAY 5 DES MOINES – WINTERSET – OMAHA
In Winterset, Iowa, a local guide leads a tour of the
covered bridges that immortalized Winterset in
The Bridges of Madison County. After a show and
tell and lunch with a local quilter at the community
church, visit Piece Works Quilt Shop, the original
shop of legendary Marianne Fons and Liz Porter.
Next door at the Iowa Quilt Museum, you’ll have
time to view quilts from their diverse collection
and admire cutting edge works in the featured
exhibitions. Later, we’ll arrive in Omaha,
Nebraska to enjoy free time for dinner and
exploring the Old Market area. B

DAY 7 OMAHA – TOUR ENDS
This morning, visit locally-loved Country Sampler
quilt shop for last-minute fabric finds and inspiration. Savor an alfresco lunch or stroll the eclectic
boutiques in Omaha’s Old Market before departing for Omaha Airport and your journey home. B
